Fine early architectural views of the Palaces of the House of Orange

This is a lovely book, and published by one of my favourite Dutch publishers (it is totally immature, but I just love the surname Van der Aa).

Witt 76 folding engraved views, and a large folding frontis, there is plenty to look at in this early Eighteenth Century work. Although the author is Peter (Pieter) Post, he had died 46 years before the work was published by Van der Aa. The artists who worked on the engravings were Govert Flinck and Jan Goeree – both Dutchmen who died in Amsterdam.

Written in French – which was common in Dutch works of the time, it is important enough to be in the collections of the New York Metropolitan Museum and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale.

It shows plans and charts for the palaces of the House of Orange. An excellent edition to any Architectural collections
