If Poirot is involved – it is not a happy Christmas for someone!

I always wonder about these small villages, where quaint Christie characters live, and where someone dies horribly every week.  When will they come to the conclusion that Miss Marple is a murderer?  Poirot is at least a detective called in to investigate. But where he is, around, someone is sure to die horribly.

In this lovely collection of facsimiles (re-issues of the original editions) Christie shows her skills with some excellent detecting.

Senator, Nobel Prize winner and Irish Republican – signed W.B.Yeats

Some individuals stand out in their nations history, and shine, even when surrounded by other giants. Yeats was one of these. Despite his troubled personal life, he was a prominent poet and politician in Ireland. He was also very much a “man of his time” with a strong interest in esoteric thought, and membership in the Order of the Golden Dawn.

This book, a signed presentation copy, was sent to Cécil Georges-bazile, the French translator and editor who translated much of his work into French.  The year before he sent this, he had been elected to the Irish senate. A man of many talents indeed.

In search of lost lovers – a remembrance of pleasures!

This work is the first edition of Marcel Proust’s first major published work “Les Plaisirs et les jours” (Pleasures and days)

Famous French watercolorist Madeleine Lemaire produced illustrations for this work.  She was the model for Proust’s Madame Verdurin (from in Search of Lost Time)

It was also she who introduced the Venezuelan writer Reynaldo Hahn to Marcel Proust in May 1894 – they were to become lovers.

A lovely copy, rebound beautifully.
